"our charter"

We live and work on Bruny Island in Tasmania; in many ways a land that time forgot. We acknowledge the traditional custodians of this place who have lived, loved, worked, gathered and hunted here for thousands of years.

East Cove is timelessly special but in more recent darker times it has been heavily logged, used as a whaling factory and then heavily grazed. We are also very aware of the impact that our development has had and we acknowledge that the land is wounded. We believe that our role now is to act in a mindful way to re-establish lost species, provide regenerated habitat for all our endemic wildlife, maintain a program of weed control and provide a safe and comfortable space for our guests. We invite our guests to join us in this endeavour and follow the simple guidelines below.

"simple steps"

  • Keep to formed pathways at East Cove or in parkland
  • Don't feed wildlife or attempt to interfere with them
  • Do not remove wildflowers or native vegetation
  • Do not drop litter or any food waste products
  • Behave responsibly when toileting in the bush
  • Snakes are protected native wildlife - do not harm
  • Do not use fallen branches or deadfall for firewood
  • Don't light campfires
